2024
 Registration FAQ

Can my child play soccer in Region 1079?

We accept any and all children possible from age 4 through 18 depending on their birth year.

Since we are a 100% volunteer region we have a limited number of players we can accept. The more coaches that we have sign up the better the chance that everyone plays.

We do our best to allow as many children as possible, but that can only happen with your help.

We always need additional coaches and referees for each season. The more assistance offered, the more children that can play in a fun, fair, and safe environment. Please sign up to be a referee or coach.

We offer comprehensive training for beginning coaches and referees. We provide you with the basic knowledge to held develop soccer skills and about the laws of the game. All we ask from you is a small time commitment. See the Calendar and Events Page about classes offered and the times and dates.

What is included with the fees to play soccer in Region 1079?

Registration fees cover the uniform (jersey, socks and shorts), trophy, player insurance, a subscription to National "Soccer Now" magazine, and also registers each child with our national office as well as field cost, light cost, referee training, field supplies, City of Mesa fees, etc...

What should we (the parents / guardians) supply?

Shin guards (Mandatory for both practice and all games, they must be worn inside the socks.

Shoes
Practice ball
Water bottle
All the support you can muster

Shoes can be tennis shoes or they may have cleats, but not Baseball Cleats (those with a toe cleat.) A toe cleat is considered a safety violation. The referee shall not allow a player to participate in a match if the players shoes have a toe cleat. A toe cleat is a single cleat in the front middle of the shoe.

When and where will games be played?

Schedules will be posted as soon as possible. Games start in September and end in early November.

Typically all games will be at Red Mountain Soccer Complex, 905 North Sunvalley Blvd, Mesa, AZ 85207

COMMISSIONERS CUP CORE TOURNAMENT INFORMATION!

To participate in the end of season single elimination round tournament, teams must quality with a minimum number of Volunteer Points (VPs).  For the "Commissioner's Cup" Rec Tournament, the minimum number per team is 15 points to qualify for the tournament.

The purpose of our Volunteer Point System (VPS) is to have more people chipping in with smaller tasks, rather than having just a few volunteers trying to manage everything alone.  Your team's volunteer participation can earn playoff eligibility!   Teams which do not correctly report the points or earn the minimum number of 15 points will not be able to participate in the tournament.

Volunteer Point System (VPS)

  • A volunteer earns 1 point for each team they are associated with.
  • Multiple volunteers per family is acceptable, allowing multiple points earned per family.
  • Volunteer points cannot be donated.
  • It is up to each team to report all volunteers.
  • Points can be attained through the following:
  • Being a center or sideline referee during a game (becoming a certified center ref = 2 points)
  •   Manning 1 tent shift at the field entrance
  •   Being a coach (becoming a certified coach = 2 points)
  •   Filing an unfilled board position  (see list under Volunteers tab)

When are practices?

For all age groups, the coach shall decide when and where to hold practices. Typically, there are one to two practices each week (depending on coach availability) and we try to group these teams as close to your home as possible.

Various teams can select to hold practices at the Red Mountain Soccer Complex, 905 North Sunvalley Blvd, Mesa, AZ 85207 Mondays through Thursdays 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm.

Your coach will inform you of what two days and time slot they have chosen.

What are divisions and what do they mean?

The divisions are defined by the players age group. Divisions may become co-ed. They are:

16/19U, 14U, 12U, 10U, 8U, 6U.

The U means "under" so the 10U division is comprised of players whose ages are under 10 as of the year of registration (8 and 9 year olds). Under no circumstances will players be able to "play down" a division (i.e. a child that turns 12 on December 31st of the registration year must play in the 14U bracket). A child may "play up" with the approval of the Regional Commissioner, however these are very rare circumstances and are handled on a case by case basis.
